D.C. United Academy finishes 3-1-0 in weekend action

Washington, D.C. (May 11, 2011) - D.C. United?s Youth Academy faced two opponents over the past weekend, with the Black-and-Red compiling a 3-1-0 overall record against the PA Classics and the Baltimore Bays Chelsea. The U-14 and U-15 clubs headed to Pennsylvania, while the U-16 and U-18 clubs featured at Prince George?s Community College in U.S. Soccer Development Academy divisional play.

Both the U-14 and U-15 clubs emerged from Saturday?s games against the PA Classics victorious. The U-14 team obtained a 1-0 victory, thanks to Willie Zarko?s goal. Then, the U-15 squad beat the Classics 2-0, with goals from Christian Najar and Heyner Pajaro.

?Overall, it was a strong performance for both teams,? said U-15 Head Coach Tom Torres. ?The groups were able to keep possession for long stretches and finished some quality attempts. The players are putting in a tremendous amount of effort and continuing to add to their development experience, despite being a first year program.?

United?s U-18?s also emerged victorious against the Baltimore Bays Chelsea. The Black-and-Red were inspired by Mikias Etcha, who scored two goals to lead United to victory in the second half after being down 1-0, with an assist from Cody Albrecht on the winning attempt.

?It was a great game played by both teams - a very hard-fought battle,? said U-18 Head Coach Judah Cooks. ?This is what you would expect from two local teams, I was very happy to see us come out with a win playing the style of soccer we did.?

The U-16?s recorded the Academy?s only loss for the weekend, falling 2-1 in a gritty contest, with the lone goal coming from Collin Martin.
