Niklas Backstrom Makes Great Shootout Save on Jack Johnson

February 2 2011 Last updated at 01:50 PM ET

Entering Tuesday's home game against Los Angeles, the Wild had won three of four and were definitely trending upward.

The teams then slugged their way through a 0-0 draw that was equal parts entertaining and 0-0 hockey. Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom made 27 saves through those 65 minutes of hockey, getting the shutout.

But then it came time for the shootout. The Wild were 0-4 this season in shootouts before Tuesday, while the Kings were 5-0.

Not only that, but Backstrom has perennially struggled in shootouts.

Naturally, the Wild would win, largely because Backstrom was outstanding. His best work came in the second round against Kings defenseman Jack Johnson.

Minnesota has won 14 of their last 21 games, and they're tied for eighth in the Western Conference.
